Two Christmas'

We feel extra lucky at the fairgrounds because we feel like we get two Christmas'... day after tomorrow and August 11-15. Both holidays are centered around making others happy, and everyone who works and volunteers here likes doing that. Every plan or improvement we make takes into consideration how it will serve our customers. And boy do we have plans.

We are planning a non-competitive exhibition of Plumas and Sierra Counties' favorite places. Everyone has their little spot they like to hike to, or attend a meeting at, or have a nice meal at. (As a Portola High graduate, I see nothing wrong with ending so many thoughts with a preposition). Please share a photograph of your favorite spot. I said non-competitive, that would be for the photos. It will be competitive for the favorite spots though. We will ask visitors to cast a ballot voting for which spot is their favorite. You can e-mail your photo or drop off a copy at the fair office. [email protected].

We are very excited to feature a new attraction at this year's fair..."The Redneck Electricity Parade" after dark, every night. We will share more details later, but we can tell you it involves a parade, electricity and rednecks. Watch out Rose Bowl Parade!

We wish each and every one of you a wonderful Christmas and a prosperous New Year. Be safe and share lots of love and joy.

Chipper's New Blog

OK! It's a few days before Christmas, and although it's hard to keep our minds on summer events, progress is being made for a great year! Some things are still in the works, and I can't mention them yet, but some things are a for sure deal. The biggest announcement is that we are going back to a 5 day Fair! For those of you who have lived here a while, you will remember the Plumas Sierra County Fair always kicked off on Wednesday. Most fairs in the state have gone to 4 day events as we did. Well, we felt there was enough going on to warrant putting that day back in. When we get the exhibit guide out, take a close look at the calendar to make sure you don't miss a deadline or event, things will be moving around because of the extra day.

Speaking of exhibit guides, (remember when they were called Premium Books?) we are 90% done with this year's publication. We've worked hard to make it more understandable. Yes, I said understandable. Remember, exhibits are the centerpiece of any fair. Plan ahead and enter as many things as you can, and get your friends and neighbors to do the same. A friend of mine, Cindy Noble, has challenged a group of her friends to "bring it on" in the scarecrow division. Maybe you could do the same in the highly competitive world of confections.

Anyway, I'm planning on keeping this updated often, so check back soon!
