Growing Plants in Plumas County
Fred Surber-Instructor This short, information packed class will include instruction on starting plants, what grows best in our area and how to care for them. Fred will cover the many categories and divisions the fair offers. Be ready to ask any question about your garden and be prepared to find out what judges look for in a winning entry. Scarecrow Making Cindy Noble & Kristi Jamason-Instructor Are you pondering a vacation to the Land of Oz? Planning your pumpkin patch for summer? Then you had better know how to conjure a scarecrow! Join a couple of blue-ribbon winners who are going to TELL ALL (our tricks that is), so you can BRING ON the COMPETITION! The Art of Crochet Sharon Anderson-Instructor This is an introduction to the art of crochet. There will be a short lesson on the first steps to learning to crochet. Materials will provided to those who pre-register to get you started and you will be given a handout with instructions. Examples of things you can enter in the fair will be shown. Keeping Clean with Homemade Soap Tim Gibson-Instructor Come see a demonstration of the basic procedure for chemically reacting Lye with oil to create soap. Proper safety techniques and the use of safety gear will be covered. Tim can answer questions about variations of soap, fragrances and coloring. Participants will take home a small sample of Tim’s homemade soap. Food Preserving Dick Hall-Master Food Preserver Dick will offer two different classes. The first will deal with food safety and basic equipment. The second will talk about planning what to plant in your garden, the canning procedure and recipes. Both sessions will offer examples of what judges look for. Dick plans on touching on pressure cooking as well. Flower Arranging Carolyn Rouse-Instructor Long time Home Arts Supervisor Carolyn Rouse will offer a hands on class in fresh flower arranging including descriptions of the various divisions at the fair, supplies, and methods. Look for tips as to what judges are looking for. |
