Gymkhana excitement! 06/14/2010
As if roller derby and American Valley Speedway isn't enough, the Plumas Sierra County Fairgrounds now has Gymkhana! For those of you who don't know what it is, think relay races on horseback. It's a series of events that have rider and animal weave through poles, pick up and drop off flags, run patterns and try to do it all FAST! Great to watch, and it's free. There is a series going on throughout the summer, the next one is July 17 at the horse arena. Consider coming down to watch this great event. It doesn't matter if you don't know anything about horses, it's just fun to watch. Thanks to all the riders that participated, we hope to see more of you next month. And it was... 06/08/2010
The weather was perfect! The turn out was amazing. Tons of cars, plenty of food, lots of entertainment. Everybody had a good time. The 1st Annual Plumas Sierra Classic Horse show was a success! This sanctioned event ran smooth and showcased our fairgrounds as a perfect facility for these sorts of shows. The Roller Derby girls were back and competed before a sold out crowd. These girls have to be seen as a real asset to our county. The bottom line is we are motivated! We already have plans for next year's picnic... more to do, more fun. Thanks to everyone that came out. Now let's get ready for Fair! The Weather Will Be Good 06/02/2010
Don't you worry. It all starts this Friday night with Graffiti Night in Old Town. Musical group Nevada Hazzurd will be performing on the Plumas Bank stage for dancing. Our friends at Southern Accent will be serving their delicious menu of BBQ, and maybe a couple of new items. Of course, the Elks will have beer, and hot dogs and hamburgers. The music is free, the food is reasonable and the company's cheap! Stay up late and sleep in until 8am, because the picnic starts Saturday at 9am. Cars, cars, cars. Food, music, vendors and sunshine. Wait a minute, you can't sleep in. The Lion's serve breakfast at 7am. You can sleep in on Sunday. The Plumas Mudslingers have a roller derby bout at 1pm and The American Valley Speedway rolls into action late that afternoon. It's 4H Awareness and Showmanship day, see what these young whippersnappers are up to. Why not wander down to the horse arena and watch part of the 1st Annual Plumas Sierra Classic Horse Show? Why not? If I hear anyone say there's nothing to do in Plumas County.... Come on good weather.... 05/25/2010
County picnic, jackpot roping, American Valley Speedway races, roller derby, 4H and FFA, Open Horse Show. Holy cow, we've got lot's planned over the next few weeks. If we could just get the weather to cooperate, we could get some stuff done! On top of all the events, we've got major improvements going on at the Fairgrounds. Whatever event you come to (and we hope it's all of them), you will notice the changes. The best way to support your fairgrounds is to attend any event you can. We appreciate your time and want to give you the best show possible. Don't forget to buy your Trailer Choir tickets, just click on the entertainment tab above. Let's go Summer!!! Good Job on the Children's Fair 05/17/2010
If you didn't make it to the Children's Fair this weekend, you really missed out. Everything a kid might find interesting was there. Fire trucks, tow trucks, the Highway Patrol, the Forest Service, even a huge pile of snow. There were pony rides and karate demonstrations, food, music and more. Plumas Children's Council did a bang up job with special kudos to the Chair of the event; Lucia Biunno. She will tell you that she had lots of help, and she did, but for her first time out, we are all very proud of her. Less than a month to County Picnic! 05/06/2010
Big doings on June 5 this year. It's the County Picnic, a 23 year tradition. The showcase has always been the Sierra Cascade Streetrodders Show & Shine, and that will continue. American Valley Speedway will have their races that night and Plumas County's own Roller Derby team, the Mudslingers are back for another bout in the afternoon! The County Picnic is also Showmanship and Awareness day for our area 4H clubs, so that's a great activity for the family. Come see what 4H is all about. The Lion's Club will have their delicious breakfast and there will be a variety of food and product vendors to make this a complete day. Roller Derby Rocks! 04/28/2010
Several hundred people came out last Friday to watch the Mudslingers bout in Serpilio Hall. The crowd got into it from the first time around the track when a couple of girls ripped the fire extinguisher off the wall! Three 20 minute periods provided HARD hits and fast skating. The girls put on a great show; from the uniforms to the theatrics. I don't know when they will do it again, but when you hear about it, plan on coming. We will add ALOT more seats. I knew I forgot something! 04/20/2010
I just had someone call me to see about entering their child's artwork at the Fair. I proudly pointed her towards our website and our on-line exhibit guide. Only problem was, no entry forms. Ooops. Anyway, we got it fixed. Fair entry forms are available under Exhibit Guide above. Want to try something different? Come to the fairgrounds this Friday night and watch the first roller derby bout for our local team, The Mudslingers. This is a ton of fun. Forget what you used to see on Sacramento television when you were a kid. These girls skate hard and fast. I watched them practice briefly and was thoroughly entertained. This could be one more thing that helps out our community by entertaining us and contributing to our economy. It's cheap. Only $4 at the door, kids 10 and under are free. Buy tickets ahead of time at Epilog Books, Indian Creek Veterinarian, Body and Soul, Sierra Promotions or the Fair Office for only $2! These girls have worked hard, come on down around 6:30pm and have a good time. There will be an after bout party at the Plumas Club. Their flyer says drink specials and rough derby girls. Good times! Trailer Choir tickets are starting to move. 04/13/2010
Just wanted you to know... you can't pick specific seats for the Friday night concert of Trailer Choir. You can only pick the section you want; Stage Seating (which is right down on the field in front of the stage), Grandstand Seating and Bleacher Seating. We are giving the "best" seats out first. That means the seats closest to the center of the stage. So, if you want to sit closest to the stage, or with the best view in the grandstands or bleachers, you better buy your tickets as soon as possible! Go to the entertainment page on the menu above to order on line. We take major credit cards. New Public Address System 04/07/2010
Just think, in a week or two, we will be able to make an announcement down at the horse arena from the Fair office. What's even better, is the fact that if that announcement is only for the horse arena, the whol fairgrounds doesn't have to hear it! In fact, we've set up the fairgrounds into different zones so we can make announcements to each zone, or to the whole fairgrounds. Expect to hear music and announcements at events from here on out. All this with grant money from our friends at the California Department of Fairs and Expositions. We've wanted this for awhile, not just for promotional reasons, but for safety as well. Your fairgrounds are the "go to" place in an evacuation of people and animals. Depending on the size of the evacuation, people could be strewn out all over our 62 acres. This tool allows us to get out information to better coordinate emergency situations. "Attention Plumas Sierra County Fair shoppers, there will be blue light specials all season!" |
